The area is well known for it's extensive geo-thermal activity - with threads of steam poking up in all sorts of places (including busy streets & paths). The area is also well regarded for its great rainbow and brown trout fishing - thanks to the 16 lakes of all shapes and sizes that dot the landscape. The lakes, formed from the craters of extinct volcanoes are also popular with people enjoying water-based activities.
